- Grand Victorian hotel
- Gorgeous ocean views
- Complimentary buffet breakfast and snacks
About The 1661 Inn & Hotel Manisses
Of all of the island's surviving grand Victorian hotels, the Hotel Manisses may be the most welcoming to families. True, the hotel itself is open only to children over 12; but it also operates a sister property across the street, the 1661 Inn, that has every bit as much character and is arguably more luxurious. In addition to gorgeous ocean views from many rooms, it features homey touches that make you feel like you've gone back in time a few centuries -- antique brass chandeliers hanging over the beds, full decanters of brandy in the rooms. Yet it still manages to be incredibly kid-friendly, with pullout couches in many rooms and an expansive back lawn with a playground and lounge chairs overlooking the ocean. (To say nothing of the exotic animal farm across the street; tours are given to hotel guests on Saturdays.) A big buffet breakfast and afternoon wine and snacks are also included in the room rate.
