Amelia Island Attractions

A Georgia barrier island with 17 miles of beaches is so far removed from the world that cars are not allowed on the island, and guests are limited. Here, wild horses have roamed the sandy shores and your family can roam 50 miles of trails, camp right on the beach, stargaze, bike ride, swim, watch dolphins play in the surf, and view a plethora of wildlife that call the island home.

Built in 1847 on a site occupying military troops since 1736, kids can get a glimpse into the island's past. Briefly occupied by Confederate troops during the Civil War, the fort was also used to during the Spanish American War. The park now offers guided tours, as well as a winding nature trail encircling a man-made pond.

Join a guided kayaking tour of Talbot Island State Parks, or rent a canoe or kayak for your own family exploration (they even supply the maps).

Get to know the birds, turtles, sea life and animals that call Amelia Island home at this nature center with biking, Segway and kayaking tours, many of which are geared specifically for kids. Located at Amelia Island Plantation, the center also provides nature camp programs for kids during summer months, such as Young Nature Explorers for kids 6 through 8, Eco Explorers for kids ages 9 through 11, and Family Explorers weekend adventures for the entire family, starting at age 6.

When on an island, seafaring adventures are always a highlight for our family. Take the family out for lessons and get up-close-and-personal with dolphins, manatees and sea turtles swimming in the same waters.
