The Crown Plaza is a hotel for those who want to save some money but don't want to stay in the hotels directly across the street from Disney. We have found that the hotels that are across the street are generally pretty run down and sometimes
more +downright dirty. And also, being across the street from Disneyland so you can walk there, is a pretty long walk for little Mouseketeers who can barely keep there eyes open after the fireworks. This Crown Plaza hotel was rated at 3.5 stars and I have to say, it was the cleanest and most comfortable family hotel we have stayed in for quite a while. It is just about a couple of miles from Disneyland. The room was spotless and so pretty with up-to- date Euro-style bedding, granite counters, sitting area and an abundance of pillows. There is a coffee maker, safe and mini bar in the room. We didn't use the mini bar as our kids would spend more there than at Disneyland if we let them.
And the beds, I must talk about the beds. The one thing you want after the endless walking at Disneyland is a comfortable bed. The Crown Plaza has a new ad campaign called "Sleep Advantage". They have the best pillow top beds and luxurious sheeting I have ever slept on. Even the kids noticed and they can sleep on boards. Not only that, but they have great blackout curtains and the rooms are quiet. We couldn't here anything and there were a lot of kids and conventioneers traveling. They provide sleep masks (like we needed it!), linen spray, a CD player with relaxing CD in it. You can also check out different CD's at the desk, which we didn't know about, but found out later. All in all, we had terrific nights sleep, which is what we were looking for.
The property has a nice pool and large hot tub. The hours are pretty generous and there is some poolside service, if you don't mind looking like a lush watching kids swim. There are swim towels available and they are kind of skimpy compared with what you get in your rooms.
There is also a coffee stand, bar and restaurant, which we didn't try except for the emergency coffee in the morning. There is also a Starbucks down the street (surprise!), an Outback, Joe's Crab Shack, Red Robin, a pizza place and Coco's just across the parking lot.
Finally, there is a $12.00 daily resort fee, which is standard for the area now. It includes parking and a shuttle which leaves from the hotel twice and hour and comes back from Disney twice an hour. This was well worth the resort fee and makes coming and going fast and easy. Tip those drivers folks! We got our rate through priceline, but there are very competitive rates through the other online sites and Crown Plaza guarantees the lowest Internet rate.
