Bear Tooth Theatrepub 1230 West 27th Avenue •Anchorage, AK •907-276-4200 Is it a movie theater or a casual restaurant? Bear Tooth Theatrepub is a little bit of both. Unlike traditional theaters that only serve candy and popcorn, you can order an entire meal here along with the $3 movie. The menu includes tacos, burritos (vegetarian and meat), enchiladas, pizza, sandwiches and wraps, salads, and desserts. Not in the mood for a movie? No problem. Simply ask to sit in the 70-seat dining room. |
Glacier BrewHouse 737 West 5th Avenue •Anchorage, AK •907-274-2739 The moment you walk into Glacier BrewHouse, you know you're in for a stick-to-your-ribs meal. The welcome is as warm as the roaring fireplace. The Alderwood-fired rotisserie -- the only in the state -- emits the most intoxicating aromas as it cooks steaks, chops, baby back ribs, and chicken to perfection. Of course, you are in Alaska so be sure to order seafood here. The fresh-caught salmon and steamed king crab legs are legendary. Wash it down with one of the handcrafted brews that are on tap. Also, bring your laptop when you dine since the restaurant offers free WiFi. |
Gwennie's Old Alaska Restaurant 4333 Spenard Road •Anchorage, AK •907-243-2090 Gwennie's has been a local favorite since the early 1970s, in part because it caters to families so well. It's almost always packed so if you have to wait a bit for your table, spend some time checking out the early Alaska/Indian decorations, the stuffed bears, and wall-mounted animal heads. The children's menu features inexpensive breakfast favorites like Belgian waffles with strawberries and pigs in a blanket. At lunch or dinner, kids select fried chicken fingers, fish and chips, hamburgers, or corn dogs. Mom and dad may prefer the fisherman's platter, BBQ beef, or a bowl of chili with onions, cheese, and jalapeno peppers. |
Moose's Tooth Pub & Pizzeria 3300 Old Seward Highway •Anchorage, AK •907-258-2537 This pizzeria ticks all the boxes when it comes to kid-friendly dining that keeps mom and dad happy too: the restaurant opens early (10:30 a.m., Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. on weekends) and closes around 11 p.m.; has won "Best of Anchorage" honors for both best pizza and best beer (handcrafted ale) in town; and serves up cheesy breadsticks, ginormous pizzas, soups and sandwiches, several types of salads, and luscious desserts with names like "Death by Peanut Butter" and "Moose Pie." The walls are papered with the labels of Moose's Tooth microbrews and seating is provided at wooden tables and booths. Service is friendly and efficient, even when the place is hopping. |
The Bake Shop Alyeska Boardwalk •Girdwood, AK •907-783-2831 Even though The Bake Shop is 40 miles south of Anchorage, it's still worth a visit -- especially if you're exploring beyond the city anyway. Open seven days a week, this casual and inexpensive restaurant and bakery serves three meals a day. Breakfast is a hearty affair with sticky sweet rolls, sourdough pancakes, and fluffy omelets. The lunchtime and dinner menus feature bottomless bowls of soup, sandwiches, and rye crust pizzas. Pick up some home-baked bread and strawberry-rhubarb preserve to enjoy in your hotel later. |
