We spent two weeks in a Key Superior room on Anthony's Key Resort in September. A friend really wanted to stay at this resort. We had previously been to Roatan twice before staying at Media Luna and Infinity bay. Before the trip i felt like this trip was a bit expensive. We had the buy one get one free deal. After having been to Anthony's Key i really see the value for the money. The package included three boat dives a day, two night dives a week, shore diving off the key, a trip to Maya Key, a fish ID talk, a buoyancy workshop plus three meals a day.
The Room- the room was nicer than it looked on the website. Great sunset views and nice deck with tables and hammocks.
The Food- the staff here are fantastic. Constantly filling glasses of water, ice tea and coffee. Breakfast included fruit, cereal, infused water and pastries. And as well a huge menu to chose from. I miss those breakfasts!!! Lunch and dinner included soup or salad, a main entree and dessert. Staying for two weeks we wondered if the second week would be a repeat but it was different except for the surf and turf friday. The second week included a third vegetarian choice. The bread and buns were really good too.
Dive operation- Nitrox was an extra charge of $115 a week. The first morning there was a nitrox orientation where they went over the procedure for checking the tanks. Also there was an orientation regarding the whole dive operation. Everyone gets a key to a dive locker. There is several tanks and showers. Dives include a couple if wreck dives at about 100 feet. The dive leaders and boat captain were awesome. The Buoyancy workshop was good. The instructor asked about issues that we were having personally. Very helpful.
Snack shop and gift store- both nice stores with friendly staff.
Clinic- the girl from the snack shop told us that the clinic had more selection of cold medicine. We ended up getting a cold. So went to the clinic and the pharmacist gave us some meds and charged it to our room.
Spa- we had a couples massage at the spa since it was 50 percent all services while we were there. Highly recommended.
The staff- from the dining room staff to the dive shop to the housekeeping staff to the water taxi guys, everyone was amazing and friendly. Its this part that will ensure that we return. Most staff has been with AKR many years. The owner is very friendly and stopped at our table to make sure we were happy. The second week he stopped by and asked how his Canadians were. My husband i were taking a picture of the huge tree by the dining room bathroom and a man started telling us about the tree. He told us he was the owners son and the general manager. Its clear how proud they are of their resort and its 50 year history and they really want you to have a good time.
The stairs to the dining room might be problematic for anyone with mobility issues. We personally didn't find it an issue.
