One of the most family-involving art museums in the nation, its efforts to involve the young in art extend well beyond its children’s wing, known as Art Connections. For preschoolers, the Gallery Under Five is a shrunken version of the museum with touchable art they can explore.

Everyone loves the Picture Perfect exhibit, where they create a masterpiece virtually by waving a paintbrush in front of a big screen. Fashion a sculpture using foam pool noodles, touch a replicated Auguste Rodin sculpture, read a book together, and make a self-portrait on a touch screen.

The two-acre gardens on the St. Johns River make a welcome fresh-air break for kids, and they provide eye-candy for all. Pick up a free copy of the Family Guide Garden Tour. There’s also an interactive garden tour for tablets.

Admission is free each Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. and the first Saturday of every month, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
