Exploration Place

300 N. McLean Blvd., Wichita, KS

Exploration Place is a science and discovery center where kids and adults can play as they learn more about science and engage their imaginations. There are 12 permanent exhibits that range from “Exploring Flight and Design” and “Bridging Art and Science” to the Grand Hall, which contains a number of “gaming” tables that challenge visitors to solve unique puzzles involving math, shapes and more.

Kids especially will love “Where Kids Rule,” a giant castle where they can roam, play dress-up and more. And both kids and adults will love “Kansas in Miniature,” where they can try to spot the various vignettes of life like the county fair, a local drive-in movie theater and the airport.

The museum also hosts national traveling exhibits, so check the website for the most up-to-date information on the current exhibit. In addition, the Boeing Dome Theater and Planetarium features a number of movies, so, again, check the website for current selection and showtimes. In the Kemper Creative Learning Studio, you can take part in an interactive live science show.

Outside the museum, you’ll find a mini-golf course (free with paid museum admission), and Exploration Park, a free venue that includes a playground, a giant sandbox, picnic areas and more. This is one of those attractions where it’s easy to get caught up in the action and time flies by. Therefore, if there’s something you especially want to see and experience, either do that at the beginning of your visit or keep an eye on the time so you don’t miss out.
