Flushing Meadows Corona Park

Flushing Bay, 11368, NY

Walking around the wide expanses of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park is great for kids with energy to burn, especially with the frequent planes flying low overhead on their approach or departure from LaGuardia Airport. A few of the architectural landmarks from the 1964 World’s Fair, like the circular observation towers, still exist, and were familiar to my teenage son from several “Men in Black” movie scenes. Another, the 140-feet high, stainless steel Unisphere, is the world’s largest globe, and a site to behold. This is also home to the annual U.S. Open tennis championships, which take place around Labor Day for two straight weeks.
