Historic Gaslight District

Mitchell, Petoskey, MI

Downtown Petoskey beguiles with a walkable district featuring plenty of shops and restaurants to find a Michigan treasure or grab a bite to eat. Named one of the Best Small Towns in America by the Smithsonian Magazine, Petoskey is settled on the shores of Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan. With its old-fashioned gas light street lamps, the Gaslight Shopping District has scads of unique shops and fine restaurants. Check out Symons General Store for Michigan candy, and NorthGoods for art, Michigan-themed items, and lots and lots of Petoskey stone stuff, including unpolished and polished stones and polishing kits. Two longtime bookstores, Horizon Books and Mclean & Eakin Books, cater to bookworms, while dozens of restaurants and cafes offer nourishment for the body. Try Jesperson’s Restaurant and Pie Shoppe, the Polish Kitchen and the iconic Roast and Toast, with colorful coffee mugs embedded in a one-of-a-kind mosaic on the façade.
