Attraction

Tabasco Visitor Center and Pepper Sauce Factory

Highway 329 Avery Island Road, Avery Island, LA

Located about 45 minutes outside of Lafayette on Avery Island (next to Jungle Gardens), this self-guided factory tour gives you a behind-the-scenes look into how tabasco is made. From pepper seed to sauce, it takes about five years to create a bottle of Tabasco, so imagine the process! The 10-stop walking tour takes visitors through exhibits, a pepper greenhouse, barrel warehouse and bottling center. Families will learn about the McIlhenny family and company and about Avery Island itself and how the salt island became the home of Tabasco. Be sure to stop at the Country Store, where all things Tabasco can be purchased. Every possible sauce and seasoning can be found here. Once you have finished the spicy tour, take a drive over to the Jungle Gardens to enjoy the tranquility.
