About Balenbouche Estate
Formerly a 2,000-acre sugar plantation and farm, Balenbouche, a 180-year-old estate, now consists of a main house and four simple cottages on 75 acres. Two of the cottages have two bedrooms and a kitchen, but none has air-conditioning, televisions or telephones. The cottages feature fans and mosquito netting. Balenbouche is for families who want something different: a nearly private, rustic getaway in the midst of the lush landscape of banyan, almond, calabash and frangipani trees. A rental car is a necessity, as it takes 15 minutes to drive to the nearest grocery store. In high season, the owner, Uta Lawaetz, offers breakfast for an additional fee.
