Great Stay

Occidental is a great hotel. The staff is very kind and friendly! The day and night entertainment is so much fun. I genuinely like this place and would come back for another on a budget trip you really do get your moneys worth.

Run. Don't walk

I checked in to the Occidental Costa Cancun about 2 hours ago and it has been one huge debacle after the next. I paid for an Ocean Front suite and the room overlooks the pool from where currently at 156am local time, I can still hear drunk college kids in my 4th floor room. I spoke with reception, reminding them with proof of my reservation that I booked an Ocean Front and they told me that because the ocean is within eye sight this is considered an Ocean Front view. Strike One.
Because we arrived so late we were anxious to grab a drink and get some snacks. However, that's pretty difficult to do when the only elevator you can find is broken-it remained on the first floor and we could not get downstairs. After 25 minutes I called the front desk and they told me that they would send someone up to check the elevator. In the interim, the bar closed. When we did get downstairs we found tomatoes and crushed coffee cups strewn around the lobby. We found our way to the snack bar where the trays were all empty. Came back to the room to find that our WiFi also did not work, and that room service was $5/plate (at what is supposed to be an all inclusive). Been here for 2 hours and it is already two hours too many. Plan on trying to get a room elsewhere first thing in the morning.
