With its stellar children's ski school, complimentary shuttle transportation around the resort and variety of conveniently located, ski-in/ski-out lodging, Beaver Creek caters to families. Plus, what's not to like about free, warm chocolate chip cookies served at the base of the ski mountain every day at 3 p.m.? One of Colorado's most upscale mountain resorts, Beaver Creek might make for a pricey family ski vacation -- but also one of the most memorable.
Beaver Creek is actually comprised of three ski mountains and three base areas -- Beaver Creek Village, Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead -- but you'll find most of the action centered around "the Village" with its family-friendly pedestrian plaza filled with shops, lodges and restaurants. This is a relatively new ski resort, having opened in 1980 with just four runs and a little more than 400-skiable acres. Today, visitors can explore more than 1,800-acres of terrain accessible via 25 lifts.
Beaver Creek's family-friendly programming is top notch. Besides the fun tubing hill and year-round ice skating rink, you can join a family snowshoe tour, bring the kids to on-mountain storytime or wave glowsticks in the air during a late-afternoon "parade" down the ski hill. Other weekly events include "family fun nights," with face painting and music, and rail jams, where kids can learn how to master some elements of a terrain park. During peak times in the winter (Christmas, President's Day Weekend and spring break), check out the "Beaver Creek Loves Kids" offerings, which might include special movie nights and fun photo-ops.
Of course, Beaver Creek isn't only a glorious place to visit in the winter months. Summertime brings kid-friendly activities such as mini-golf, bungee trampoline jumping and wall climbing on a wall at the base of the mountain. You can also take a scenic chairlift ride, go horseback riding, mountain bike, hike, try fly-fishing or book an exciting whitewater rafting adventure in Beaver Creek and the immediate area. Truly, there are dozens of ways you can enjoy the outdoors with your kiddos in Beaver Creek -- no matter what time of year you visit.
