8100 Mountainside Bar & Grill 136 E. Thomas Place•Avon, Colorado, CO •970-827-6600 This restaurant in the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek specializes in local, natural and organic dishes. Each menu item lists where the main ingredient was grown or raised, or the name of the farm or fish market it comes from. The comfortable but classy dining room is adjacent to the open kitchen with a 66-foot wood-fired grill on which elk loin, strip steak, lamb chops trout and salmon are cooked. The chef has his own garden and cures his own meats. Lest you think this restaurant is a special treat just for adults, the kids' menu is equally outstanding, with options like grass-fed burgers, grilled chicken breast and homemade macaroni and cheese. The restaurant is named for the elevation at which it sits -- 8,100 feet! |
Beano's Cabin Beaver Creek Mountain•Beaver Creek, CO •970-754-3463 Tucked in the woods on the ski mountain, Beano's Cabin offers an unusual, albeit expensive, dinner option for families. In the winter, you reach the log cabin via snowcat-drawn sleigh; in the summer, ride via a horse-drawn wagon or in a four-wheel drive van. Children under 11 are offered a discounted three-course meal, while adults choose from a four- or five-course dinner. Choose from gourmet salads and starters such as foie gras or duck confit, as well as entrees like sea scallops, beef tenderloin or rack of lamb. Kids start with "fruit sushi" and end with a chocolate brownie and ice cream; in between, they might order penne pasta, chicken parmesan or halibut fish sticks. Beano's cabin is both elegant and rustic, with elk-antler chandeliers hanging above white tablecloths. And it's not just food you'll enjoy at Beano's Cabin -- musical entertainment accompanies your meal. |

Coyote CafĂ© 210 Beaver Creek Plaza•Beaver Creek, CO •970-949-5001 This is a popular apres-ski spot with its variety of microbrews and margaritas, and the lively bar scene can continue well into the wee hours. Still, Coyote Cafe turns out family-friendly Mexican and Southwestern food at reasonable prices. In addition to tacos, burritos and enchiladas, consider pulled-pork sandwiches, burgers, salads and soups.
