10 Best New York City Hotels for Families With Infants

See recent posts by Traci L. Suppa

Babies don”t take up a lot of space, which is a good thing when you”re staying in a typical New York City hotel room. When you have an infant in tow, however, other considerations come into play. Most hotels will help you find a babysitter, and bathtubs are generally available, especially within suites. Here, we”ve looked for other signs of a baby-friendly property — large, quiet rooms; cribs, play yards and high chairs; baby care amenities; bottle warmers or microwaves, and more.

Iroquois Hotel

This midtown property is not only well-located, but it"s also quiet. Soundproofed windows let baby sleep undisturbed by car horns. What"s more, the Iroquois New York offers parents a great range of complimentary services to make your stay easier, such as strollers, baby cribs, car seats, bed rails for toddlers, baby bathtubs, child-proof kits, and lending libraries of DVDs and board games. Older kids will enjoy a welcome gift, in-room video games, and children"s robes and slippers.

Ritz-Carlton Central Park

Exemplary guest service is a Ritz-Carlton Central Park calling card, and it extends to families at this venerable and historic property, as well. As part of the Ritz Kids program, there"s cookies and milk at turndown for kids, and Bulgari baby bath products for infants. Rooms range from a spacious 425-square-foot Deluxe to the 1,980-square-foot Royal suite. If baby needs a stroll, head across the street to Central Park.

Conrad

This modern, luxury hotel is a worthwhile splurge for the large suites with separate sleeping rooms that you can close off with sliding doors. Baby can take a nap and you can still be productive in the other room at the Conrad New York. Cribs and baby bath products are provided, and you can request a mini-fridge to store milk and baby food. Room service is available 24 hours a day, so you can all enjoy midnight feedings. The location close to Battery Park City puts you across the street from a playground, and near One World Observatory and the Statue of Liberty.
4/10

Mandarin Oriental

This upscale Columbus Circle property takes guest service seriously for parents of little ones. You can let the Mandarin Oriental New York know your children"s ages in advance, and they will have an appropriate welcome gift, like a stuffed animal, waiting at check-in, as well as complimentary baby toiletries. You can request the use of cribs and rollaway beds, childproofing accessories, Diaper Genies, bottle warmers, and high chairs. Stroller rentals can be arranged through the concierge.
5/10

Omni Berkshire Place

The smallest rooms at this luxury property are more than 270 square feet, so there"s plenty of space to unfold a stroller and put out a play blanket on the floor. Breakfast is served early at Omni Berkshire Place, with organic and gluten-free options. Children 12 and younger stay free with their parents. Older kids will get an activity backpack at check-in, and milk and cookies are sent to the rooms of all guests with children. Refrigerators and rollaway beds are available for an additional fee.
6/10

Residence Inn Central Park

Any hotel room with a kitchen is a delight when traveling with a baby, and this chain is known for offering this indispensable amenity in every room. And even with a kitchen, you still get a full buffet breakfast included in your rate at the Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Central Park. The property doesn"t feel cookie-cutter, though; it"s in a new skyscraper with modern décor. Cribs can fit in even the smallest room, a King studio. Guests love the location on Broadway between Central Park and Times Square, and proximity to the subway.
7/10

Lowell Hotel

There"s a home-away-from-home vibe at this upscale property in a quiet upper east side neighborhood. Because it"s small—there are only 27 rooms and 47 suites—the environment is calm and relaxing. You"ll appreciate the fully equipped kitchens in the spacious rooms, but may want to pick a room without a fireplace or terrace if your baby is crawling. Multilingual concierges are noted for their local knowledge of places to take the stroller; like Central Park, a block away.
8/10

Doubletree Suites Times Square

Times Square is not exactly a quiet neighborhood, but noise isn"t a problem on the upper floors of this centrally located brand property. Two-room suites that sleep up to five people are ideal when you want a separate sleep area for baby. Each room at the DoubleTree Guest Suites Times Square has a microwave and mini-fridge. Gingers, the onsite restaurant, has high chairs, a children"s menu, and offers an early pre-theater dinner service starting at 5 p.m. for kids with early eating schedules.

Fifty NYC — an Affinia Hotel

The Affinia collection includes five all-suite properties in New York City -- all great choices for getting maximum space for that baby gear. The Gansevoort hotels

Two equally trendy properties—one in the Meatpacking District and the other on Park Avenue in the NoMad district—are perfect for parents who appreciate their high design décor and luxury spa and dining facilities. Suites are the better bet, although standard rooms start at 250 square feet. Babies are catered to, with complimentary cribs, protective bumpers, Pack ‘n Plays, disposable diapers, and bath amenities including body wash, lotion, powder and diaper cream. If you have older kids, you can also borrow PSP and Nintendo Wii game equipment at no charge.
