Reviews

Disappointing

by PagosaRocks

As others have said, this hotel is being remodeled - they no longer are a Best Western hotel, but now pretend to be a "boutique" motel called the "Inn of Sedona" - we were not informed when making the reservation. The conditions while they are remodeling are beyond frustrating. The parking area is full of construction vehicles, materials, and detritus. The "lobby" is in one of the rooms near to where we stayed. Consider - when reading this review - we were in a NEWLY REMODELED room.

Perhaps the best thing to be said is that the location on the west end of Sedona is out of the highly trafficked tourist area that is now suffering from construction of traffic circles along the main street, generating horrendous traffic jams.

First, I want to acknowledge the staff - they are trying to work through these problems and were professional in our interactions. The breakfast staff were attentive, and the food was a step above the standard free breakfasts offered by other motels.

Then there's the room - we were on the premium-priced third/top level, and the best thing I can say is that the views of the mountains are very good. The room was pitiful. The room description says it includes a microwave - there was none. The one-half inch gaps around the doors freely allowed wind/dirt/construction debris inside.

The bathroom and exterior wall are painted in a very dark blue/grey, resulting in feeling like you're inside a cave, with only two 40 watt bulbs to provide lighting. The bathroom ventilation fan sounds like a jet engine, and was largely ineffective in removing moisture. In such a small 1960s vintage bathroom, it's simply deafening. Moisture from the shower runs down the dark walls, leaving very visible streaks. The shower/tub combination is very small, leaving you with a sensation that you may fall if you're not careful, due to the narrowness of the tub. There were dark shoe marks on the white bathroom floor that remained there for the duration of our stay.

The heating/air conditioning unit, wall mounted under the window, is close to being an antique, noisy, hard to regulate, had dirt/debris on the top, and the thermostat was loose and appeared ready to fall off the wall. Closet space is severely limited, with only 6 clothes hangers provided by management. Only two small drawers are available in the room for clothing.

The room is very small - for the price paid for a "deluxe king" room, it is seriously over-priced, and looks NOTHING like the photos on their web site, which appear to be spacious and well appointed.

To compound these issues, our room was NOT cleaned the last day - contributing to our decision to leave two days early. We informed the front desk staff, and they assured us that the housekeeping staff hadn't finished for the day, and that our room would be cleaned. Did NOT happen. Eventually, someone came into the room while we were enjoying the mountain views, and left towels, glasses, and coffee cups on the unmade bed, then left. UNACCEPTABLE!

We will never again stay in a Best Western, nor at the Inn of Sedona. Tourists beware...caveat emptor.

Very mixed experience including an injury!

We spent three nights here and the views breakfast and shuttles were great but there are other problems.
No proper reception due to remodeling and the relabeled make do room really difficult to find at night. Information about this in advance would have been a basic courtesy especially as we had emailed to say we would be arriving after a two day from the UK. Remodeling meant limited parking and a bit of a mess in general. As others have said this was not signaled clearly to the guests upfront-just a lot of guff about the new Sky Rocket rebranding from November.Disingenuous to put it politely.
The worse problem however was the overloaded towel rail falling off the wall (not properly put up)and hitting me on the head. I rang reception to report this and inform them that I was dazed. They suggested I walk to reception for pain killers(!) but I insisted they come to me as I was understandably sitting down!
That was it. No follow up to see if I was ok and no goodwill gesture of any kind. No idea of health and safety or customer service for that matter.
Can’t recommend despite lovely location.
