Big Sky Planning & Tips
Big Sky Resort is owned by Boyne Resorts. If you have a season ski pass to any other Boyne Resort in Michigan, Washington, New Hampshire or Maine, you're entitled to 10 free days of skiing at Big Sky.

Big Sky is separated into three distinct villages: Mountain Village at the base of Big Sky Resort; Meadow Village, about halfway up the road to the ski area; and the Canyon, which is just off the road that you'll take from Bozeman. From Canyon to Mountain Village, it's a good 12- to 13-mile drive, so if you're skiing, you'll prefer to be as close as possible to Mountain Village.

The Art of Smart Timing
To be honest, any time -- except mid-April to mid-May, when the ski resort closes down and Yellowstone is only open to bike traffic -- is a great time to visit the area. Even in the heart of summer or family vacation breaks in winter, you never feel too crowded at Big Sky. That's the beauty of Montana and the reason we go there.

Getting Around
You'll need a car to drive from Bozeman, around Big Sky, to Yellowstone. However, in Big Sky, you can ditch the car and take the free Skyline Bus around town.

Off the Radar
Yellowstone National Park has teamed up with the National Geographic Society to create a new map for families heading to the region. Focusing on "geotourism," travel that sustains or enhances the geographical character of the place being visited, the map highlights historical, environmental and cultural points of interest, both in and around the park. So, in addition to Old Faithful and all those bison and elk, you'll find canoe rentals on the Jefferson River in Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park, dinosaur displays at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman and local hot springs in Chico.
