Biloxi, Mississippi has been labeled one of the country's oldest communities since it was settled by French settlers in 1699. But the area served as the home of Native Americans as early as 8,000 B.C. and up to the 1700s, including the Biloxi Indians, from which the city received its name. In the 1800s, the city started building a reputation as a favorite summer destination, a legacy that continues today. With its sugar white beaches, variety of outdoor recreation, and shopping and dining offerings, Biloxi continues to draw visitors year-round.

In 1992, the state of Mississippi legalized dockside gaming, and Biloxi welcomed a number of casino resorts to its shores. These resorts just added another dimension to the entertainment, dining and shopping options available in the city. With new attractions like MGM Park, home of the minor league Biloxi Shuckers, and new accommodations like the family-friendly Margaritaville Resort Biloxi, Biloxi continues to grow and evolve into a top-notch family destination.
