Jacksonville’s First Annual WinterFest

Sunny Florida isn’t often associated with a winter wonderland, complete with snow, but Jacksonville is hoping to change that this year when it celebrates the holiday season with its first annual WinterFEST.

Visit Jacksonville and Adventure Landing are teaming up to provide visitors with an outdoor ice skating rink, nightly snowfall, alpine slides, story time with Santa and more beginning November 18 and running through January 2, 2012.

Pop into the Crystal Creek Lodge for hot cocoa and treats, then visit Blizzard Bluff Village for crafts like building a gingerbread house, decorating Christmas cookies, making holiday ornaments and making a holiday bear at the Teddy Bear Factory. Santa leads story time, complete with milk and cookies, S’mores will be roasted around a fire, holiday movies will display on a big screen, and kids can play in the snow.

WinterFest will be open evenings and weekend days, as well as Christmas and New Year’s. Entrance into Blizzard Bluff Lodge and Crystal Creek Village are free but fees will be charged for various programs. Ice skating admission is $10 for ages 3 and up, or $12 with skate rental. The Alpine Racer 130-foot slide admission is $2 or $5 for three slides.

WinterFest will be located at Adventure Landing, 1944 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
