Disney to Stay Open for 24 Hours

January 3rd, 2012 by Lissa Leave a reply »

2012 is a Leap Year, meaning we have one more day on February 29. To celebrate, Disneyland Park in California and Magic Kingdom Park in Florida are going to remain open for 24 straight hours, beginning at 6 a.m., for its One More Day special.

This will be a first for the Disney theme parks. If you elect to stay at a Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you may also earn a free night stay to coincide with the event. Book a Room and Ticket Package for three nights or more between February 26 and March 10, and you’re family will receive an extra night free. (Purchase before January 31.)

  1. i have a family of 5, 3 kids 6 and under, were going to disney world this sept. 12th through the 19th and would like to leave and go to the gulf the 19th through the 22nd. we would like there to be a lot of shopping and such along the beach (i don’t like to have to put the kids in and out of the car alot) but would also like it to be a good and safe beach for our family any suggestions?
oh i don’t want to have to drive more than 2-3 hours from disney to the beach.
If you suggest a beach and you know of a nice beach front hotel there please reccomend! i’m having a hard time finding some reasonaible ones (170 or under a night)
Thanks in advance for any help or sugestions!

(I was thinking gulf because i hear there’s smaller waves, warmer, and shallower) Not sure if that’s all true.

    Hi,

The Gulf waters are typically warmer with less waves and I feel are great for younger kids. If you’re looking to drive less than three hours, you’ll want to head toward Tampa or the Southwest Florida area, including Naples and Marcos Island, Fort Meyers, and Sanibel and Captiva Islands (the islands are accessible via bridges). You can click on the links to read a bit about what the area provides, and if you click on the Resorts tab in those links there will be a number of hotels, including those we’ve personally reviewed and like. The “Check Rates” box will help you find the rates during your timeframe, to see if the hotels are beneath $170 per night. If you are going in September, I would think it would be easy to find some great deals, as that’s back-to-school time and Disney and Florida hotels deeply discount in the fall. I clicked on the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort, for example, and saw the hotel for $173 per night. Good luck! I’m sure your family will enjoy the trip!
