One of the more educational places you can visit with your children while in Branson, the Dinosaur Museum provides a number of hands on activities for children of all ages. Kids may enjoy participating in a dig, building a dinosaur or simply coloring a picture. The high-definition movie is very well done, although maybe a bit scary for smaller children. Note that these are not real dinosaur fossils, but are sculptures that help bring this period of science and history to life.

Located right on the banks of Lake Taneycomo, Branson Landing is the premiere shopping destination and overall public gathering place for visitors to the southern Ozarks community. Here you'll find the largest selection of restaurants, clothing and specialty shops in the region, and enjoy the pedestrian walkway where you can travel from one end to the other via a free trolley. While older children are shopping, younger ones will enjoy splashing in a playground designed for toddlers.

There's always some sort of entertainment underway in the public spaces of The Landing, but the favorite for all is the spectacular Fountain show. Every hour beginning at noon, the water and fire dance in rhythm with the music as a crowd gathers in awe. It's especially impressive at night when the Star Spangled Banner is playing.

An evening at the Circle B includes a fried chicken dinner and cowboy movies as a warm-up, followed by classic western music with an Ozark flair. There's a bit of audience participation as everyone is encouraged to clap and sing along. For your older children who might have seen the Academy Award-Nominated movie "Winter's Bone," the fiddler at the Circle B appeared in the movie and performed on the soundtrack.

Everything from roller coasters to showboats to broom makers to musicians have made Silver Dollar City an integral part of the Branson experience for more than 50 years. Whatever makes your family happy on vacation will probably be found inside the turnstiles of Silver Dollar City. You name it and you're likely to find it - water rides, train rides, horse rides, camping in the woods, haunted mansions and creepy caves, and then there's the music and crafts!

In addition, there's usually a special festival or event occurring that incorporates music and crafts, making each visit to Silver Dollar City different from the last. In June and July, there is the National Kids-Fest, a six-week long extravaganza of entertainment and amusement rides, and in September and October, the National Harvest Festival takes place and is considered the country's premiere showcase of American craft artisans.

423 Fairy Cave Lane
Branson, MO • 417-272-3366
Sneak in a little earth science lesson on the kids with a visit to one of the privately owned show caves that give Missouri its nickname, "The Cave State." The hour-long underground tour introduces all of the basics of stalagmites and stalactites and how water erosion creates caves while the eerie echoes that reverberate throughout the cave add some frightful fun. Note that the cave is not stroller friendly and requires climbing up and down stairs, and remember to bring a jacket because it's always about 65 degrees in the cave. Some family members may wish to stay above ground where a miniature golf course with special water features makes the trip doubly worth the effort.

A multitude of family activities are offered here, but one of the most popular attractions is the nightly outdoor melodrama of this story first put into print by Harold Bell Wright. Offering a very family-friendly setting, children will enjoy the live animals and action scenes, although an occasional gunshot may scare the little ones.

Come early enough to tour the old homestead or enjoy the Chuckwagon dinner, or come much earlier in the day and take a zip line ride from Inspiration Tower, ride horses around the property, and enjoy the beauty of the Ozarks from the exact spot where Harold Bell Wright began work on the book that eventually made Branson famous.

It's rather refreshing on a hot summer day in Branson to stand beside a 100-foot tall iceberg! The towering iceberg and the imposing ship, built to half scale of the original, can't be missed standing in the middle of the Ozarks!

Each visitor to the museum receives the name of a real passenger on the Titanic and doesn't learn their fate until the tour ends. Kids get to shovel coal into a boiler, send an S.O.S. and touch a real iceberg. Among the displays are 400 original artifacts, such as deck chairs and life jackets. The First Class dining room features an exhibit from the 1997 blockbuster movie, Titanic, including wardrobe items from Kate Winslet and Kathy Baker. Bring a hanky for the exhibit on the pets and other animals that went down with the ship.

Located within the Silver Dollar City complex is Branson's only outdoor waterpark, White Water, the largest outdoor waterpark in the Ozarks. White Water is 12 acres and includes an 800-foot long river, more than 7,000 feet of water slides and a sand volleyball court. It's possible to buy separate tickets just for the waterpark, but there's so much to do in Silver Dollar City why not partake in both! If you have the time, take advantage of the 3-day combined park tickets that offer a true savings.

New in 2011 is the Aloha River at Hula Hula Bay. The highly-themed family attraction carries you through wild landscape with unexpected twists and turns, fountains, misters and a 30-foot tall tiki water tower!

Every Friday and Saturday in July and August (with a few exceptions) the park is open 10am - 10pm for "Night Water!" Enjoy a discounted rate after 5 p.m.
