Open year round, this three-hour long guided tour takes adrenalin junkies on a total of 10 ziplines and across suspension bridges. Much of the action takes place above the glades of Mount Stickney, descending more than 1,000 feet on this exhilarating journey. No experience is necessary, but kids must be at least 90 pounds.

The summit of Mount Washington is known for its inclement weather. Even when it's warm and sunny on the veranda of the Mount Washington Hotel, it could be snowing at the peak of Mount Washington. So when parking your car at the trailhead, step into the Pinkham Notch Lodge run by the Appalachian Mountain Club and make sure it's a good day to bag the highest peak in the Northeast. The first 2.4 miles of trail is a gradual ascent through a shaded forest of birches and firs. Eventually, you reach Hermit Lake Shelter, a popular hangout in the spring when skiers make their way down Tuckerman Ravine. On the Lion's Head Trail, you rise above tree line and are thus vulnerable to any weather. Eventually, you reach the hut at the top, where you can purchase an "I Climbed Mount Washington" T-shirt and grab a sandwich or hot cup of soup. If you prefer not to climb down, you can take the coal-fired Cog Railway that leaves you off near the Mount Washington Hotel. Then you have to drive back to pick up the first car in the Pinkham Notch parking lot.

Omni not only refurbished the hotel, but carefully restored the circa-1915 Donald Ross gem of a golf course. Ross is widely recognized as the premier golf architect of his time. Expect narrow fairways and small round greens that always seem to slope toward ruin. Yet, with those views of the hotel and the mountain in the background, it's hard to get too irate.

If you ever wanted to get your kids to try cross-country skiing, the Bretton Woods Nordic Center would be the place. The 100-km network, one of the largest in New England, features miles of groomed trails that cross over bridges and glide along streams on trails like Dark Forest or down hills on Coronary. Socked in a valley below the snow-capped peaks, the views couldn't be more jaw dropping. The Nordic Center rents skies and boots. Don't forget to bring bottled water. It's a good workout.

Start your day with an easy cruiser like Sawyer's Swoop, a rollicking good run through the trees that rewards you with excellent views of the Presidential Range. Then make your way over to the aptly named, No Regrets, off the Fabyan Express Triple Chair. Many of the blues in the middle of the mountain, like No Regrets, are mellow and good fun for low-level intermediates. After lunch, make your way over to the black runs on West Mountain, which get the afternoon sun. Waumbek is a sweet trail with little traffic on the perimeter of the mountain. For expert skiers, Bretton Woods recently added 30 acres of glades on Mt. Stickney. Full and half-day instruction is available at The Hobbit Ski and Snowboard School for children ages 3 to 12. Also inquire about the Family Lesson, where children learn along with mom and dad. The Babes in the Woods Nursery offers child care services for children ages 2 months to 5 years.
