Cape Cod Family Friendly Restaurants
Beach House 297 Shore Road•Chatham, MA •508-945-0096 This indoor/outdoor restaurant is located right on the beach and serves up lunch and dinner daily. Look for its family theme nights, particularly the Cape Cod Clambake, which takes place weekly in the summer. Kids can watch the chefs spend hours over the in-sand fire pit steaming a fresh catch of lobster, clams, scallops and more -- then put on a bib and prepare to get messy! |
Hot Chocolate Sparrow 5 Old Colony Way•Orleans, MA •508-240-2230 Coffee and chocolate lovers rejoice! I can't think of a better find -- a cafe with beans from around the world, specialty coffee drinks, fudge, hand-dipped chocolates, ice cream, bagels, breakfast sandwiches and paninis, all reasonably priced. We went every day and quickly learned why the place is packed with locals (and frequently voted "Best of the Lower Cape" by them, too). Open 7 days a week, year round. |
Sir Cricket's Fish and Chips 39 Cranberry Hwy•Orleans, MA •508-255-4453 For fantastic fried clams, fish sandwiches, tuna rolls, onion rings and a "fishermans platter," stop in at this tiny, cash only, seafood joint (its sandwiched between a general store and a fresh fish market). Seating can be tough since there are only a few small tables in front of the counter, but you can order a feast to go and enjoy it at the ballgame or before an afternoon kayak tour. |
The Lobster Pot 321 Commercial Street•Provincetown, MA •508-487-4863 This multi-level restaurant offers expansive views of Provincetown Harbor from its decks. Pick from an extensive list of dishes featuring seafood prepared in every possible way from blackened tuna sashimi to lobster ravioli and Tuscan salmon. Traditional seafood can be had as well. Choose from native Cod, Haddock and Halibut served pan-fried, broiled or deep fried, plus an array of lobster dishes. A children's menu is available. Open beginning of April through mid-November. |
Wild Goose Tavern 512 Main Street•Chatham, MA •508-945-5590 Located in the Wayside Inn next to Kate Gould Park, the Wild Goose Tavern is a nice place to go to lunch or dinner with the kids. Menu items include great soups (especially the French onion), pizzas, sandwiches and seafood, steak and chicken entrees. Ask for a seat away from the bar or out on the patio for the best people watching. Walk through the adjacent Wayside Inn lobby, stop near the fireplace and play the old-fashioned version of the game "Sorry" before you head home. |
Winslow's Tavern 316 Main Street•Wellfleet, MA •508-349-6450 Winslows Tavern is located in artsy Wellfleet village, in between Provincetown and Easthams Inn at the Oaks B&B. The restaurant's large outdoor patio set atop a hill makes a nice setting for an upscale family lunch of Wellfleet oysters or a sea scallop roll. A basket of books is kept near the hostess stand to entertain little ones while they wait for their meals (treat them to a browse in the toy store nearby afterwards). Dinner includes seafood specials, steaks and pastas. The taverns extensive wine list and upstairs Billingsgate Bar with Live entertainment make this a good date-night spot as well. |
