Love OBX

Having stayed at several campgrounds through out the outer banks, this is our favorite. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The campground is very tidy and the beach access is phenomenal. A few issues that kept our stay from being perfect. First, the spot we were put into barely fit the length of our camper. It was a last minutes trip so we were grateful To have a spot but it’s in our notes not to be in that spot again. Second, I realize the pool is a swim at your own risk but maybe a staff member could be available to send unaccompanied minors, up to no good, away. Goofing around with my kids in the pool and we observed a pretty serious scuffle and several groups of teens/young adults who needed to get a room. My last issue was with the waste hookup. As I was trying to get everything flushed and ready for departure I discovered there was a blockage in their waste system. But instead of listening to what I was telling them, they kept having folks dump further up the line and add water. Then they got upset with me for waste coming out of the system. It might help your staff if they know and understand your utility layout. Where the high point, low point and vent pipe are. Beyond this we hope to visit again next year. We do enjoy our stays at the beach and this stretch of beach is worth it.

Terrible customer service!

We arrived at the KOA in Hattaras which we have stayed in before. Excited to stay in a suite ($260+ per night) we were early. We were told to park across the street until our. Room was available. It is a busy street but we followed the rules. We were given a red parking tag that indicated we were “waiting to check in”. 15 minutes after check in time I approached The counter to check in. The very kind lady started the process, when she began preparing a new parking pass I told her “ we already have one”. I was immediately informed that we needed a yellow parking pass with our room number on it. Following all the rules we placed the “official yellow parking pass” to our mirror. We discarded the red temporary tag. We went out to dinner and returned at 8:15 to find our parking spot taken. We were told to park in a different spot! When we asked the evening worker if that car would be towed, he said “ we don’t tow cars” I asked what was the point of the specific parking spots? He told me to speak with the manager tomorrow- with a look of disgust! This is not an inexpensive property and we expect more! We followed the rules only to find out that others do not without consequences. We typically enjoy this property and are KOA members. What a colossal disappointment! I hope KOA compensates us for our inconvenience! VRBO here we come!
