About The Cavalier Hotel
The Cavalier Hotel, reigning over 80 acres with 400 elegant rooms, offers a luxurious slice of Roaring 20s southern beauty for those who like their beach experience laced with the finery of yesteryear. Constructed in 1927, the Cavalier Hotel put Virginia Beach on the map and hosted such luminaries as the Barrymore's, Dwight D. Eisenhower and six U.S. presidents. Today's Cavalier is actually comprised of two properties: the original grand dame of Virginia Beach, now called The Cavalier on the Hill, reigns as always across Atlantic Avenue from the main beach strip. The second hotel, The Cavalier Oceanfront, offers beautiful ocean front views and sits directly on the beach.
Both hotels provide a mile long list of swanky amenities that adults and kids love. The Cavalier on the Hill provides an indoor Olympic-size pool, tennis courts, a library, croquet and more. The Cavalier Oceanfront provides a 1,500-square-foot fitness center, an outdoor pool (open Memorial Day through Labor Day), bike rentals (in the summer) and more.
In the summer season, parents will love that kids have access to largest children's wading pool in Virginia Beach (located at the Oceanfront Cavalier), Camp Cavalier (kids ages 4 to 12), babysitting services and a Kids' Cafe.
The Cavalier properties offer five dining options ranging from multi-course meals to light lunches by the pool. In the winter the Hunt Room Grill opens for rustic, cozy meals paired with the roaring fire.
As a parent of two little boys, my favorite Cavalier story is that cartoonist Hank Ketchum created a bevy of "Dennis the Menace" cartoons inspired by his family's stay at the Cavalier.
