Overview

As the name suggests, this is truly a private island and the price tag reflects that exclusivity. With just six cabanas on the property, each is secluded from others with a natural barrier of palm trees and blooming bushes. With your own beach area, dock and personal butler, you truly feel like you have the island to yourself. Schedule a fishing, snorkeling or diving getaway, a picnic or a shopping spree in San Pedro, just three miles away by boat. Moms like Jody Foster have vacationed here with her children, but certainly less prominent families have enjoyed the solitude of this private island as well.

Just a really great, relaxing time.

You know, you get what you pay for. This was a really nice way to celebrate a milestone birthday. The service was great and attentive. Right from the international airport to the island (through island hops and boat) and back again, they have things organized and covered. I do not believe we asked too much from our houseman and his assistant, but they did check up on us. The villa was cleaned/set up twice a day. They announced their approach to the villa, which was really nice so you're not surprised. The food was great and there were three main course selections. Portions were great, but we asked for smaller portions a few times (so much good food). The fridge was stocked, the beach and pathways were brushed. We were initially planning to go into San Pedro to walk and eat, but we ended up (outside of our two snorkeling excursions) just staying at the private villa. We kayaked around the island. Was able to go out on the Hobie Cat.

It was hot and humid. Sun was strong. It rained only temporarily a few times - they were brief. Had some lightning storms in the distance, which was cool to get the camera out. Oh, yes there are biting bugs, that's any tropical place. The staff and resort tries its best to minimize, but you have to be prepared for it. My suggestion is that if the bugs are bugging you (normally they come out after dusk), stay on the veranda. Our houseman suggested they close the villa at around 5, ended up being nice that inside the villa was nearly bug free because of how they did things.

But again, can't stress the privacy and the fact that they take care of you. The property is worth it and the people are friendly, helpful, informative, and conscientious about your space. You can lounge inside/outside and still feel like you're getting everything the villa has to offer. We stayed at the Solana.

I'm glad we did this. We'll go back.

25 Wedding Anniversary

I will never forget Cayo Espanto. Every detail of our Anniversary trip was perfection. They played our wedding video on a big inflatable screen during our dinner. Swam with sharks and manatees, caught fish, fed Tarpon and caught/ate our own lobster. Let me just say we ate like royalty!! Food....every meal was amazing. Cayo Waves...I’m in withdrawal now without one. Comfy Bed...slept like babies. Attention to detail. When places are costly sometimes you question if it’s worth the money. ITS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!
Stayed in Casa Olita - Housemen, Obed and Brandon????
