Charleston Planning & Tips
Getting There and Around
Charleston is on the coast of South Carolina with Kiawah Island and the Isle of Palms serving as beachfront destinations for visitors. Located between Hilton Head Island and Myrtle Beach, the city is accessible by I-95. Charleston International Airport is serviced by Delta, United, American, Continental and US Airways.

Renting a car is the easiest way to get around the area, unless you plan on focusing only on historic Charleston, which can be explored by foot and a few cab rides.

The Art of Smart Timing
Charleston is a year-round destination due to its temperate winters and long springs. However, hot and humid summers can be stifling. (Charleston's wealthiest homeowners retreated to the mountains during the summer months before the advent of air conditioning, which is thankfully in heavy use.) If traveling in the summer, consider one of the beach resorts to have a reprieve from the heat.
