Cleveland Family Vacations
Families will love:
  • Home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
  • Easy to navigate and extremely affordable for families
  • Can boogie with the best of the big cities

Famous as the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland can boogie with the best of the big cities. It boasts a celebrated art museum and symphony, as well as the second-largest performing arts center in the U.S. (Playhouse Square) and even the tallest building between New York City and Chicago (Key Tower, at 948 feet tall). Yet it's easy to navigate and it's extremely affordable. There's even free downtown transportation. Forbes ranked it the 8th most affordable city to live in, while Travel & Leisure gave Cleveland its top spot in its list of the most affordable U.S. getaways for visitors.

Families flock to Cleveland to visit the Great Lakes Science Center and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo -- either one making of a visit to Cleveland worthy on its own. The zoo is part of the extensive network of parks and nature preserves in and around Cleveland known locally as the Emerald Necklace; the "necklace" stretches roughly 60-miles long and covers more than 21,000 acres, including hundreds of miles of walking, biking, and horse trails. And of course, Lake Erie and its sandy beaches are in Cleveland's backyard, allowing plenty of opportunity for swimming, charter fishing, jet skiing, and kayaking. In fact, because of its location on the southern shore of Erie, Cleveland is cooler in summer and warmer in winter than most other mid-western towns.

Named for General Moses, Cleaveland in 1796 (the city dropped the "a" in 1831 to fit on the local newspaper's masthead), this city is also known during the fall as Brownstown -- home of the NFL's Cleveland Browns. Sports fans can also watch major league baseball (courtesy of the Cleveland Indians) and professional basketball (courtesy of the Cleveland Cavaliers).
