Coastal Maine Family Friendly Restaurants
Barnacle Billy's 50 Oar Weed Road•Perkins Cove, Ogunquit, ME •207-646-5575 Barnacle Billy's and the adjacent Barnacle Billy's, Etc. are two fun little seafood joints in Ogunquit, both of which have excellent seafood and a casual atmosphere great for families. Barnacle Billy's has a large deck that overlooks Perkins Cove and the kids will love watching the boats coming and going as they eat. Their lobster stew is amazing, but for kids who disagree, you'll find burgers, chicken and hot dogs. Both restaurants are open from spring through fall, call ahead as exact dates vary. |
Cape Pier Chowder House Restaurant 79 Pier Road•Cape Porpoise Harbor, ME •207-967-0123 Enjoy sitting out on the deck perched directly over the water and eating fried seafood, burgers and lobster! There's something for everyone on their menu and it offers a quintessential Maine eating experience with a birds' eye view of lobster boats and Goat Island Lighthouse. |
Cody's Original Roadhouse 399 Commercial Street•Rockport, ME •207-236-3700 If the kids tire of quaint little New England restaurants and seafood, try Cody's. It's one of those places where you won't have to worry about the kids making too much noise (you probably won't hear them), throwing peanut shells on the floor (it's encouraged), or asking to get up from the table. The food is casual: chicken steaks and burgers are top-notch. Kids eat free on Mondays and Tuesdays. |
DiMillo's Floating Restaurant 25 Long Wharf•Portland, ME •207-772-2216 DiMillo's is one of my kids' favorites, and was always one my mine as well. How often can you say you dined in an enormous floating restaurant that was once a car ferry? Naturally, you'll find lots of fresh seafood dishes on the menu, as well as plenty of casual fare like burgers, pastas and even quesadillas. There is a separate kids' menu with items like PB&J, fried haddock and hot dogs, at very reasonable prices. |
Federal Jack's 8 Western Avenue•Kennebunkport, ME •207-967-4322 Sit out on the casual deck overlooking the harbor and enjoy reasonably priced pub-style fare and award winning hand-crafted ales. A favorite for kids is their fried chicken fingers. Lots of seafood choices, too. Open year round seven days a week. Dinner served until 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday (although a late night menu is available after 9 p.m.) and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. |
Grissini's 27 Western Avenue•Kennebunkport, ME •207-967-2211 Known for its innovative Tuscan Italian dishes with a New England-style, Grissini's is comfortably casual. Kids particularly enjoy eating their brick oven pizza in the very casual Grotta room located downstairs or outside on the patio. Open nightly year round. |
Rupununi 119 Main Street•Bar Harbor, ME •207-288-2886 Rupununi has a great location on Main Street in downtown Bar Harbor and serves American fare with a New England flair. The restaurant has an outdoor patio on Main Street as well as an inside dining room. They have a great children's menu with everything from grilled cheese and hot dogs, to fried calamari and petit filet mignon for kids. Rupununi serves lunch and dinner daily from mid-April through November 1. |
The Goldenrod 2 Railroad Ave•York Beach, ME •207-363-2621 The Goldenrod is a stone's throw from Short Sands in York Beach, and is a must-see for families visiting the area. The goldenrod is an awesome place for kids. It's part restaurant, part ice cream parlor, part candy store, complete with huge taffy-stretching machine in the front window that the kids will love watching. They are famous for their saltwater taffy. Definitely pick up a box to take home for a souvenir. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a kids' menu. The restaurant closes in the winter and reopens in June. |
