Musty smell for Family Weekend

by Karen C

We stayed at this hotel for Ithaca College Family Weekend. It was a wonderful place to stay when visiting Ithaca College as it is right up the street. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite on the first floor. The hotel decor was a little dated, but it was comfortable. As we walked down the hall to our room we heard conversations behind the doors quite clearly (really thin walls). We got to our room and in the hallway there was a faint musty smell which increased the minute we opened the door to the room. The smell was overwhelming. I went to the front desk to ask if they could do something for us. The hotel was fully booked and they had nowhere to move us, but they said that someone from the house staff could go and try to find and remove the source of the smell. We went out to dinner and came back to a room that was still very musty. Thankfully we were not spending much time in the room...really just sleeping for 2 nights. My son was looking in drawers and thinks that the smell got worse when he looked in one of the drawers, but didn't see anything in there. I needed to air out my clothes when we got home because the smell stuck to some of my things. Aside from the smell, the breakfast had good options and the location was super convenient. Hopefully they get to the bottom of the odor.

Could be better

We were looking forward to this hotel, not far from the City with a pool and "suites." Reality didn't live up to the expectation. We hit town early and thought we would find out if an early check in was possible. The woman at the front desk was actually rude and taken back that we should ask. She told us not to come back until 3PM. Wow! It set the mood for the day. I asked for a room facing the trees in the back but got a room facing the parking lot. The place is clean but in need of a facelift. Maid service was very friendly but the front desk never did warm up. The walls are a bit thin and the room was small for a suite with nothing more than a microwave and fridge it was pricey. The breakfast was done well. We sometimes forget a smile doesn't cost anything, this hotel needs a reminder.
