The 100-plus-year-old museum contains more than 23,000 works of art spanning over 5,000 years of history. With displays of contemporary art, European paintings and sculptures, ancient American art and art from Africa, Asia and Indonesia, it's an impressive collection. A four-story, 80,000-gallon conservatory, the Dallas aquarium is small but just right for the kids. The aquarium is laid out in a rainforest-style, with the top floor serving as the canopy with birds and monkeys and flowing down to the rainforest floor, where fish, snakes and crocodiles await. Three onsite restaurants are spread out throughout the space, including Cafe Maya with Tex-Mex cuisine and eighteen-O-one with international foods from around the world, including British Columbia, Fiji and Indonesia. Each offers children's selections.

We stumbled upon this bronzed cattle drive making its way down a rocky terrain and across a river and immediately pulled over to walk amongst the cattle and cowboys. Life-sized sculptures commemorate the trails that brought settlers to Dallas, and kids and parents are welcome to walk through and touch the sculptures in the outdoor park located smack dab in the middle of the city with its towering high rises.

Located just 15 minutes from Dallas in Arlington, Six Flags' towering rollercoaster can be seen on the horizon for miles, and thrill seekers will surely get giddy. The park's 212 acres features both bold and brazen roller coasters, as well as tamer family-friendly rides and attractions. Six Flags Over Texas is home to "Titan," one of the world's tallest coasters standing 225 feet in the air -- and featuring a 20-foot-long tunnel.

The former Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald took his sniper shots at President John F. Kennedy stands as a memorial to Kennedy, providing a complete timeline of events, a glimpse at Oswald's boxed perch, and a background on the Kennedy's, told with prize-winning photojournalism and a detailed audio tour. A somber but worthy visit.
