End of the summer getaway

by mep58

We've been coming to Destin for the past 6 years to enjoy the beautiful beaches, great golf courses and shopping. The first time we stayed at The Destin Beach Club - we didn't have a reservation, we walked in and they were able to accommodate us. Since then, we have stayed there every year and have never been disappointed. Each condo has a well appointed kitchen and very comfortable beds. The beach is awesome, the guys that set up the umbrellas and chairs do a wonderful job managing the area. Lots of really nice people come every year so it's fun to see some familiar faces. Nothing but good things to say about The Destin Beach Club - we'll be back next year.

Three and a half stars - great value

The BEST: Relatively small 3 story condo building with private beach = great beach experience.
The GOOD: All units have a balcony facing the water. We visited in Sept with no crowds on the private beach; no issues with beach chairs and umbrellas. The balconies accommodate 2 chairs and tables nicely - some units were able to squeeze in a bit more seating. The unit below ours did have an extended porch beyond the balcony that was nice. There were just the two of us and we had plenty of space in this efficient condo. Parking was great.
The NOT SO GOOD: On this section of HWY 98 it's quite touristy/junky looking. Totally different experience on the front of the building than the lovely beach side. In the middle of arcades and amusement parks and chain restaurants, etc. Does that matter? Maybe not, unless you're looking for a more serene beach experience. In that case keep looking. If you have children, this might be the perfect spot. During our visit, there was some construction going on in one or more of the units and we woke up each day to hammering and buzzing. Walls are thin - you can hear a chair being pulled out in the next unit or the creak when a door is opened.
SUMMARY: We thoroughly enjoyed our beachside experience. The construction noise was a minor inconvenience. As a retired couple, we probably would not stay here again as the area is more family friendly and we prefer a walkable neighborhood without all the touristy attractions. But I would recommend it for a family with children.
