A virtual reality play land, a world-class circus, a hot air balloon ride, a dine-in theater and "boutique" bowling -- what do these attractions have in common? They're all part of Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney), a bustling Orlando shopping, dining and entertainment complex where families can be thoroughly entertained -- without ever entering a Disney theme park.

Following a multi-year transformation, the tourist attraction comprises four unique outdoor "neighborhoods" -- The Landing, West Side, Marketplace and Town Center -- with a combined total of 150 dining (arguably the best dining options in Disney World), shopping and entertainment venues. Here's what you'll find in each area:

The Landing: This is where you'll find most of the upscale dining establishments.

West Side: This is where all of the major attractions are located, such as Characters in Flight and Splitsville Luxury Lanes.

Marketplace: This is where families can go for casual dining and free entertainment, including the Marketplace Carousel and Marketplace Stage, where kids' dance parties are hosted.

Town Center: You'll find more casual dining in the Town Center, along with upscale shopping.

At the gateway to the complex and within walking distance to Disney Springs lies the independent resort district, an area comprised of seven official non-Disney hotels offering exclusive perks to guests, including free scheduled shuttle transportation to and from Walt Disney World Resort theme parks, water parks and Disney Springs.
