About Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House Villas

Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom Lodge-Jambo House villas offers an experience that is wholly different from Disney World's other resorts: A chance to experience the culture of another continent through all of the senses. Disney's Imagineers visited more than 20 African lodges for inspiration before recreating a slice of Africa here in central Florida, complete with thatched roofs, mud fireplaces, traditional art, food, music and a 43-acre wildlife preserve.

That preserve, and its more than 30 species of animals is what Animal Kingdom Lodge is most beloved for. Many of the animals are visible from guestroom balconies and special viewing areas, including an elevated kopje (or rock outcropping) that puts guests within 15 feet of the animals. In addition, in-room Wildlife Field Guides provides a checklist with identification pointers and behavior tips on everything from ankole cattle to okapi, red river hogs and zebras.

Important Note on Animal Kingdom Lodge
While many past guests refer to the six-story Animal Kingdom Lodge as "the lodge," the resort refers to this structure as Jambo House, including the Jambo House Villas. Why?

When Animal Kingdom Lodge opened in 2001, demand was so great for larger villa-like accommodations that Disney remodeled the building's fifth and sixth floors and opened them as phase one of Animal Kingdom Jambo House Villas in July 2007. Phase two is the new stand-alone building, known as Kidani Village at Animal Kingdom Lodge, which opened in 2009, adding 340 more vacation villas that are just a short walk away from Jambo House. Now both Jambo House and Kidani Village are referred to with the Animal Kingdom Lodge moniker.

This review focuses specifically on accommodations and activities available at Jambo House. See the Kidani Village review for details on Kidani's amenities as many are available to Jambo House guests.

Checking into the Jambo House, we were in awe of the soaring ceiling lobby filled with glass windows and one of the tallest Christmas Trees in Florida. Our girls took the stairs down to one of many wildlife viewing areas to observe zebras, giraffes, gazelles, and red river hogs. The Lobby Concierge is a great place to also purchase tickets to the Disney ... more +
