We were planning a short trip (4 days) to Disney World. In the past we had stayed at the mid-level Disney hotels (Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans) which we completely enjoyed, but we decided this time to step it up a notch. We were worried that we more +might be wasting our money since really you are going to WDW for the parks, not the hotels, but Animal Kingdom Lodge did not disappoint. The room was spacious and overlooked the "savannah." We sat on our balcony with our coffee each morning and watched the giraffes, bison, jack rabbits do there morning thing. Later, after a day in the park we sat by the pool and watched the animals off in the distance. As you walk the grounds of the hotel it's like a mini safari. The animals are all around and there are staff gameskeepers around to answer any questions. It was really very cool.

As far as typical hotel features, excellent. The lobby is large and impressive with lots of interesting sculptures. The pool is huge with a poolside bar that makes yummy frozen drinks. The cafeteria style restaurant was typical Disney; fine but nothing special. The buffet restaurant was delicious and service was excellent. We did not try the sit-down restaurnants.

We went at a particularly busy time in the parks so we spent more time at the hotel then we normally would. It was a wonderful respite from the busy park atmosphere.

If you can spare the extra money (and admittedly it is not inexpensive) I highly recommend the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I went to AnimalKingdom as my first large family vacation and was very pleased with the hotel. Giraffes off my balcony, animals everywhere. The kids had the arcade, swimming pool, activities set up every day and night which covered multiple age more +groups. The hotel was built in such a way that you could explore and learn and never leave the building. We were there for 7 days and could of stayed two weeks to actually see everything there was to see. You can travel from one hotel to another and to the theme parks by bus so you never have to use a car. You can use your meal deals at any hotel, not just the one you stay at so you can see other places and experience the true nature of Disney. You get extra hours in the theme parks for stay ata resort. I got free travel to and from the airport and passes to the theme parks.
Everyone in the family loved it. I recommend the trip and the hotel

From the minute you drive up you know that this will not be an ordinary hotel stay. I was skeptical when I booked the rooms that you would see much wildlife from your room but I was wrong. Every time we walked onto the balcony there were different more +animals to watch, acting just as they would in the wild. When you check in they give you a list of animals that are on the property - the kids had a great time looking for each one and with the help of the friendly staff directing them to the right places to look they managed to find all but one.

They have great programs for the kids - We had planned a day for Disney, a day for Epcot and a day for Animal Kingdom, I wish we would have added a day just to enjoy everything at the hotel. Nightly they have a parade the kids can join in. They also have animal experts on hand throughout the day and evening to answer question. My son's favorite part was going out at night and watching the animals with night vision goggles - the rangers were great about showing him how to use them and finding where the animals were.

The food in the restaurants was great. If you can, stay on the concierge floor - they provide great service, free breakfast and light snacks and drinks throughout the day.

If you have a child who is an animal lover - this is a hotel not to be missed!

What a great hotel! Especially for kids who like animals. It is a really neat hotel, great pool, and gorgeous lobby. The animals were awesome. Unfortunately, we had a room that faced the street--the only way you can get a fairly decent rate. We more +asked for an upgrade but no luck. The staff was really great. The food was delicious but a bit on the expensive side. It is definitely a great experience though.

We did a trip to Disney world with three different families and thought we were in over our heads. We decided to stay in three rooms in a row with two of the rooms that joined by a door. This was a great option in case one child wanted/needed to more +sleep the rest of us could go into the other room without disturbing the child and we could still hear everything with the adjoining door opened. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was excellent. They would bring us extra towels without having to be asked and would knock lightly in case one of the kids were sleeping. We had no problems with the hotel and staff would often open doors, help with bags, push elevator buttons (when our hands were full with bags or sleeping children). The down side was not a lot of stuff for young children to do and some staff had problems with the toddlers crying when one of them needed a nap. Food was extremely expensive and not very kid friendly although I as an adult liked the different kinds of food.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is a resort in a class by itself. We stayed in the Villas portion for a few days on our Disney trip during Spring Break in a Savannah view studio. We had a beautiful view of the savanna where we could see zebras, giraffes, and more +other creatures just roaming outside our room. The boys, ages 10 and 7, as well as my husband and I love relaxing on the balcony watching the animals (we even saw a zebra and giraffe get into a minor scuffle).

The resort itself is breathtaking. From the lobby to the room, the attention to detail is incredible. The restaurants are fantastic, and we spent way too much time in the gift shop. The pool area is great as well as it has a zero depth entry portion and is very large. There are various places throughout the resort where one can view the animals, and the resort didn't have a crowded feel even during the spring break time period.

We would give this resort 5 stars, and we can't wait to stay there again!

Animal Kingdom Lodge was excellent! Stayed on first floor in the first room on the left in the back hallway by the exit's to the animal viewing area. Right by the front desk but there was no noise disruptions throughout the day or night while in more +our room. Animal view was nice and did not disturb us. Two sinks in each bathroom. Toilet and shower in one room, Sinks in the other. Lots of storage space.

Food was great! Especially the breakfast buffets at Boma. Did not try Jiko but heard it was good. The Mara was a fast food-style restarant and we did not like it very well. Pizza and fries were awful! Arcade was ok. Pool was amazing! Fit very well into the theme. Playground for tots and kids was nice and kept clean.

Decor was stunning and beautiful. Had a strong African theme and workers dressed up in appropiate uniforms. Animal viewing areas was a nice thing to have. Gift shop big and had lots of things, including last minute things and snacks (healthy and un-healthy), resort wear, toys, and home decor.
