About Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

A backyard bonanza of outdoor fun, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort offers the best of both family vacation worlds: a multitude of activities for all ages and a casual, convenient local that sets the stage for a laid-back group getaway

Opened in 1971, the 740-acre American Frontier-themed resort offers 784 private Campsites, as well as 409 air-conditioned cabins, which sleep six and come complete with daily housekeeping service, including dishwashing.

During the resort's early years, guests enjoyed transportation by steam train to Walt Disney World theme parks via the Fort Wilderness Railroad. Today, visitors can board a boat to the Magic Kingdom, take a horse-led trail or wagon ride, and dance and sing along with Mickey, Minnie, Chip 'N Dale at a backyard barbecue and a nightly campfire with S'mores.

A redesigned feature pool with a whirling tube slide and a children's splash and slide zone debuted in 2009, and along with recently added activities like archery lessons and Segway tours, it provides longtime fans with new reason to return to this luxuriously rustic family-friendly property.

Too bad our stay was not long enough to make ... more +
