Disney's Hollywood Studios Family Vacations
Families will love:
  • “Toy Story Midway Mania” and “Disney Junior - Live on Stage”
  • “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster” and “The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror”
  • Live shows, interactive experiences and “Fantasmic!” evening spectacular

Bringing glitz, glamour and star power to the general public, Disney's Hollywood Studios presents the thrill of the stage and the screen, with hair-raising thrill rides, action-packed stage shows, one-of-a-kind interactive experiences and dramatic behind-the-scenes tours.

Featuring two of central Florida's most exciting thrill rides -- "Rock n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith" and "The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror" -- as well as a host of opportunities to be a star or hobnob with the stars, Walt Disney World's second youngest theme park appeals to fans of all ages. In "Disney Junior - Live on Stage," little ones can dance and sing along with Disney Junior stars like Mickey Mouse, Handy Manny and Jake of the Never Land Pirates, while shows like "Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage" and "Voyage of the Little Mermaid" bring guests young and old up close with favorite characters, from Ariel to Belle.

When the younger members of the family blow off steam at "Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure," a larger-than-life playground, older fans can join R2-D2 and C-3PO on "Star Tours - The Adventure Continues," a new and improved 3D version of the perennially popular Star Wars-themed motion simulator ride. Just outside the attraction, junior Jedi knights ages 4 to 12 can take their turn at defending the Force at "Jedi Training Academy," a hands-on class in light saber moves and space warrior maneuvers.

For kids of all ages, "Muppet Vision 3-D," a humorous 3D movie starring the Muppets, and "Toy Story Midway Mania" are fan favorites. The latter not-to-be missed ride gives brothers, sisters, moms and dads the chance to face off in a family-friendly 4D moving video game adventure.

Whether your offspring are budding stars or simply enjoy star-studded entertainment, you won't want to miss "The American Idol Experience," a talent show where Disney parks guests serve as both the contestants and the jury. If you prefer productions that lean more towards action and adventure, "Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular," a theatrical stunt presentation combining death-defying tricks with a fast-moving storyline, will keep you on the edge of your seat and primed for more.

The adventure continues at mealtime, with a number of fun-filled interactive dining experiences. Choices range from the "Sci-Fi Dine in Theater," a simulated drive-in eatery, to "50s Prime Time Cafe," a nostalgic diner with a wisecracking "Mom." At "Disney Junior Play 'N Dine at Hollywood and Vine," kids can even be part of the show as they dance and sing along with favorite Disney Junior characters.

Originally named MGM Studios, the 135-acre theme park opened its production facilities in summer 1988, with attractions and entertainment venues debuting in May, 1989. In 2008, the park was renamed Disney's Hollywood Studios to reflect its extended entertainment focus, which now includes TV, film, stage and musical productions.

Be sure to check park schedules in advance to ensure that "Fantasmic!" is offered on the day of your Studios visit. The 25-minute evening spectacular combines lights and lasers with leaping fountains, special effects and magical Disney moments. "The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights"is another not-to-be-missed marvel. The amazing snow-streaked display, staged on the Streets of America from November to early January, features millions of sparkling lights synchronized to seasonal sounds.

Opening in late 2012 is the park's newest attraction, "The Legend of Jack Sparrow." Replacing "Journey into Narnia," the immersive first-person experience will incorporate features from all four "Pirates of the Caribbean" films.
