Reviews

Three stars is genous

by Trip829327

I will preface this review with: I have traveled extensively around The Caribbean, Eastern Pacific, and parts of Western Europe in all levels of hotels. I stayed in everything from roadside motels to luxury resorts and Divi Phoenix comes in the middle leading me to the rating of 2.5 - 3 stars.

Let's start with the good:

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The property is beautiful and constantly maintained.

The property is very well suited to those who have limited mobility. I noticed the staff helping several guests with scooters and walkers.

The beach and pool areas are kept clean.

The AC in the room worked perfectly.

The ben linen was decent quality

The not so good:

The bed is shot. We could feel every spring in the mattress and it needs to be retired.

Our room smelled like mold from the moment we walked in but we figured we could deal with it for a week. We are now airing out the luggage and double washing our clothes because the smell permeated everything.

The room service menu is limited and the food is not great quality. We ordered the nachos and they were awful. The burgers were okay.

There is no pool or beach service. You can walk or swim to the bar but there is no wait staff. I know a lot of people say it is no big deal but that is something offered at 4 and 5 star hotels.

The check-in process is a bit of a cluster. It is not a comment on the staff but more staff would be helpful.

A late checkout costs half of the daily rate. If you have a choice, take the early flight home because there are very few air conditioned areas to wait until it is time to head to AUA for your flight.

Mornings are noisy, if you like to sleep late. The housekeeping closet was right outside our room. The door on the closet is mis-hung and scrapes on the tile every time it is opened or closed. It sounded like a wounded pterodactyl was screaming in the hallway.

We came across a bunch of broken pool chairs.

There are no comfort items in the room like robes or extra blankets.

Overall the resort is okay as long as you manage expectations. There are resorts I would love to return to, but this is not one. I don't see the value.

Spectacular

As a couple, we couldn't be happier than our 7 day stay at Divi Phoenix. We stayed in the "Villa" building, on bottom floor room 105. The photos the hotel shows are accurate. This room had sliding glass doors that opened to our small patio yards away from the pool & Hot tub, beach, then the ocean. Nature right outside our door, we would walk barefoot. Our room had all we need. Fridge, microwave, stove, closet space and bathtub had jets to be jacuzzi. Also, Divi Phoenix has outdoor barbeques that we grilled our fish on. I don't know if it was because of time of year, but it was a quiet place to stay. Guests and staff very friendly. The main pool with the swim up bar had excellent happy hour. This resort less crowded than the "Hilton" or "Rui". We did walk 10 minutes to Eagle Beach, which I highly recommend. And the tourist area of newer part of Orangestad, was also only a 10 minute walk. Good to try restaurants. We usually took a cab to our restaurants. However, there is the option of buying groceries and going out for dinner. Or getting bagels at the deli located near concierge $6, for breakfast. I loved the area we were in. As far as I'm concerned, best place to stay in Aruba!
