Reviews

Wonderful staff, but some operational issues.

by James C

The staff were all excellent, the resort has some issues from an operational perspective.

The rooms were not ready at the 4:00 check-in time. I did a pre-check-in at 11:00 and my room was not cleaned until 5:30, others in the line at 4:00 had similar stories as did others we spoke with during our stay.

The poolside bar was supposed to open at 11:00 each day, there were days when it didn't open until 12:30 or 1:00.

The one large restaurant on the resort was closed on Saturday (even though they charged us for the all-inclusive) due to a private function. Some meals on the menu were not included in the all-inclusive.

The staff were wonderful!

When you are at Divi St. Maarten, you are at home

My 2nd home with my St. Maarten family. Check in went very smoothly. Room was great. I was able to throw my birthday party at Gizmo's bar where all guest helped me celebrate. Everyone was very friendly.

Family Activities

Beach
Guestrooms are only steps away from the beach, providing easy access to sandcastle building, wave jumping and swimming. The wide and long stretch of white sand gives children ample opportunity to run and play in the sand or the sea. It's an easy, kid-friendly walk out into the ocean, as well, since there is not an immediate large drop off into deeper water.

Some guestrooms are situated with a perfect view of the beach allowing parents to sit on their balcony, but still keep an eye on older kids playing.

A beach volleyball court can be found on the beach, along with plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas -- all complimentary to guests.

Pool
Each of the three pools at the resort offer something different, and no matter where your room is, you'll find you're close to the pools.

The hourglass shaped Seabreeze Pool (conveniently located at the Seabreeze Cafe is the largest of the pools, surrounded by cafe tables, a few lounge chairs under cabanas and a hot tub. A large, deeper in depth section of the pool is great for pool games.

The Infinity Pool is smaller in size and has only a handful of lounge chairs, but a hot tub and small waterfall can be found at that pool. It also offers an excellent "infinity-style" view of the ocean.

The Casita Pool is medium-sized and is also surrounded by lounge chairs. There are no lifeguards at any of the pools or by the beach.

Kids' Club
The kids' club isn't a traditional club where parents drop their children off. Instead, it's a place for parents to hang out with their children. Families will find a pool table, board games, buckets and shovels for the beach and other activities.

The air conditioned kids' club opens every day at 9 a.m. and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Other activities like tie dye and bingo are held throughout the week and can be found on the daily events calendar.

Land and Water Sports
Divi Little Bay offers several motorized water activities for an additional fee. Waverunners, pedal boats, paddleboards, kayaks and a tube ride are available to rent at the beach. Families will also find tennis courts and beach volleyball on the property, and scuba diving gear is available to rent, as well.

Crab Races
Keep an ear out for the Crab Races, which will be announced by the beach usually on select days. Guests love this activity as they stand along a sand-drawn circle on the beach and "bet" on their favorite hermit crab to leave the circle first. The race announcer makes this Divi Little Bay activity fun and exciting to watch as the tiny crabs run to the cheering crowd.

Family Dining

PureOcean Restaurant
This waterfront restaurant offers indoor and outdoor terrace seating and is open for breakfast and dinner. The full breakfast buffet, which runs from 7 to 11 a.m. every day, includes hot and cold items like eggs, breakfast meats, cereal and fruit. Dinner, offered from 6 to 9 p.m., is an a la carte or buffet menu with plenty of seafood, beef and chicken options. The kids' menu includes items like chicken tenders and spaghetti and meatballs.

Gizmo's Beach Bar & Grill
Located beachside with tables above and on the beach, Gizmo's is open for lunch and dinner, serving pizzas, hamburgers and salads. The kitchen is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the bar is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. During happy hour (5 to 7 p.m.), guests will enjoy live music from local bands or a DJ.

Seabreeze Cafe
Located by the Seabreeze Pool, this poolside cafe is open for lunch, snacks and happy hour seven days a week. Kids' menu items include hamburgers, hot dogs and grilled cheese. The kitchen is open from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the bar remains open until 7 p.m.

Bayview Deli
Open for breakfast and lunch this cafe serves breakfast sandwiches, salads, coffee, cookies and ice cream daily from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The deli is located along the resort promenade area near the lobby.

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras
All-Inclusive Option
Guests have the option of paying an all-inclusive rate, which includes all meals, snacks and unlimited beverages at the bar. However, guests can also pay as they go.

Wi-Fi
Free Wi-Fi is available in guestrooms and in the lobby. The Wi-Fi in the guestrooms is good quality and uninterrupted. However, the signal is weak or non-existent throughout the rest of the resort (minus the lobby).

Fitness Center
Cardio and weight machines are available to guests in the fitness center.

Grocery Market
The small market, located next to the Bayview Deli, is an excellent first-day stop for parents who want to stock up on snacks and other food items. Frozen meals, soups, chips, cookies, yogurt, cheese, bread, cereal, beer, milk and even spices can be found in the market. Prices are somewhat higher compared to the mainland, but not outrageous.

Babysitting
The concierge can set up outside babysitting services for guests.

The Art of Smart Timing
Any time is a good time to visit the Caribbean, but St. Maarten's high season runs from January through April. The island has not seen a significant hurricane in several years, but hurricane season runs from June through November.

Getting There
The Princess Juliana International Airport is less than a 30-minute drive to Divi Little Bay.

Getting Around
Depending where your guestroom is located and whether you prefer the beach or a specific pool, guests do have a slight walk (portions include up hills and stairs) to different sections of the resort. Kids will love hopping on a golf cart with a driver at check in, which then delivers guests and their luggage to guestrooms. For young children, a stroller would be a good idea to pack.

If you plan to explore the entire island, renting a car would be smart. But if you plan to stay at the resort the majority of your stay, a rental car is not needed and taxis would suit just fine for excursions or a day trip away from the resort. A taxi stand is located by the hotel lobby.

For Mom and Dad
Spa
If parents can sneak away for a bit, try one of the many spa treatments at the resort. Parents will love a hot stone massage, manicure or pedicure, facial or any number of the other treatments.
