Great Mid-town hotel

by j k

We were in town for a basketball tournament and a benefit concert, both at Madison Square Garden. This hotel, only a couple of blocks away (and thus only a couple of blocks away from Penn Station) was perfect. It has high rise rooms with views of the Empire State Building; we prefer lower-level rooms. We were on the fourth floor on the front (facing 29th Street) and, with the exception of one convoy of fire engines, heard no sounds. The quiet was remarkable and made for good nights' sleep (unusual for us in any hotel room). Attentive and friendly staff. Great French bakery for morning coffee a half-block north at 7th Ave.

Friendly staff, rooms sorely needs updating, hotel screwed up charges big time - check your bill carefully

My husband and I stayed here for four nights. The staff is friendly and attempt to be helpful. Elevators are slow and small. We stayed in the “penthouse suite” which is actually just a normal sized room for most hotels but it did include a balcony with spectacular views of the city. The room constantly smelled like weed - we suspect staff was entering the room to use the balcony. Our room, at least, was last updated probably in the late 90s and things were worn and dated. The most frustrating thing has been attempting to deal with billing issues.
