Almost every year my family goes to Scottsdale, AZ, for vacation. If you don't mind the heat, go in the summertime and you'll get unbelievable rates for some really great resorts. When we go we spend a lot of our time at the pool especially during more +the hottest part of the day. We always stay at the Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort. Our kids love the pools there. They are large so there's lots of room to swim and not feel like you're right next to anyone else. The great thing about going during the summer is that it is the low season so there's not much of a crowd. The pools have drink and food service that isn't outrageously expensive especially for the kids. One of the pools has cabanas that you can use for free. Because we go during the low season we can always get a cabana. The cabanas offer shade making the pool a place where you can spend your entire day and not get sunburned. The other pool has an attached playground with sand as the flooring.

One of the great things about this hotel is that if you don't use the tennis courts, spa, or exercise facility during your stay, you do not have to pay a resort fee. When our family isn't at the pool staring up at the palm trees, we hit the town to go to a movie, eat out, or do a little shopping. One restaurant we love to go to is the Five and Diner, a nostalgic 50's style diner with fantastic American food and they even serve breakfast too. Many resort towns charge a lot anywhere you go...not so in Scottsdale! Our vacations every year are so reasonable that we actually leave feeling like we got a great vacation for very little money. We always drive there so that makes it even more affordable.
