My family spent three perfect days at Dreams Puerto Adventuras All-inclusive Resort. It was without a doubt, the most lush and relaxing vacation that we have ever taken.
When we arrived at the hotel, my two teenaged children and I
more +were met on the top step by a young woman with a tray of champagne. I sipped my glass of champagne while we waited in line to check in. We soon reached the front of the line and were told that we had been upgraded from a Marina view room to an Ocean view! However, our room was not quite ready for us as we had arrived early. I was thrilled having never stayed in a room with a full view of the ocean.
We headed straight to the beach while we waited for our room. The beach was spacious, clean and uncrowded with a gorgeous view. We climbed into lounge chairs near a gazebo that was situated on a point reaching into the sea and looked out into the turquoise water. We breathed in the warm air wiggled our toes in the white sand knowing that it was raining back home. We could not help but feel relaxed and privileged to be staying in such a beautiful location.
As delightful as our first impressions were, we were soon pleasantly surprised to be approached by a waiter who offered to bring us drinks. We ordered the fruity cocktails which the occasion called for (virgin versions for the kids) and were soon living the image of a long treasured fantasy, and we hadn't even made it into our room yet! A few minutes later, another waiter approached with delicate little tuna finger sandwiches. They were almost as delightful as our drinks. So this was how royalty were treated!
My kids and I could have stayed there on the beach for the full three days, but we decided to drag ourselves away from our dramatic view and back into the lobby when checkin time rolled around so that we could change into more comfortable clothes.
When we opened the door to our room, it was like a scene in movie where a struggling young person finally makes it big and moves from the life of the ordinary to a life of luxury. The room was light and beautifully decorated in a clean, simple style. The view was breathtaking! Our fourth floor balcony was 20 feet in length with a panoramic view of nothing but gorgeous ocean and palms. It was the picture of Paradise! The two double beds were soft and comfortable with pristinely white cotton sheets. The bathroom was as modern and spacious as the room itself and the shower was tiled in a subtly iridescent vanilla mosaic.
I have stayed in nice hotels before, but in this hotel, the delightful surprises just kept coming one after another! There was an adult side of the hotel grounds complete with a full-sized pool, hot tub and full bar and even a fine restaurant with a view of the Marina. The family side had another full-sized pool, the largest jacuzzi know to mankind, another full bar, four restaurants and, of course, the beautiful private beach where we had had our first taste of this garden of earthly delights. My son and daughter soon discovered a ping pong table by the swimming pool and a pool table next to the lobby.
Before we had left for Mexico, there had been a few friends and acquaintances who had expressed reservations about traveling to Mexico, but the atmosphere in the hotel made us all feel absolutely safe and secure. Our first night there, I had dinner on the adult side with a friend while my kids went to a restaurant on the family side of their own choosing. By the second day, I was perfectly comfortable allowing my kids to roam the grounds independently while checking in with me periodically.
Since it was an all-inclusive resort, all of our food, drinks and many activities were included in the price of the room. This gave me the opportunity to taste several cocktails in the three days that I had never tried before. The daily itinerary for the hotel even had a "Drink of the Day" which provided tantalizing ideas as well.
The food was excellent. Our favorite was the Seaside Grill which seemed to have the best food in spite of being one which catered to families rather than the finer restaurants. There was seafood available at all of restaurants and I enjoyed salmon, grooper, ceviche and to my great surprise calamari. (I actually shrieked slightly when the waiter told me what I had eaten.) My favorite meal though was breakfast. Each and every day, I had a smoked Scottish salmon omelete with cream cheese, fresh crossants and fruit and a cup of Mexican style hot chocolate with a dash cinnamon from room service. I ate this marvelous breakfast in bed while looking out at my amazing view. This memory has become my own personal version of heaven.
Once I had finished my breakfast, I headed out each morning to the gazebo overlooking the sea where I participated in a yoga class to the sound of the breaking waves. It was revitalizing to stretch and tune both muscles and my senses. The combination of excellent food, the strengthening of my body and the pressure free atmosphere gave me an unbelievable sense of contentment and joy each and every day of our stay.
Because there were so many activities available right on the grounds we not only had plenty of activities to do without traveling off of the site, we found we didn't have enough time to do all that we wanted to do. My kids often chose ping pong, pool or hanging out at the pool with a fruity virgin drink, while I snorkeled, swam laps or read my book. I also had the rare opportunity to have a private scuba diving lesson from a very sweet and attractive young French man. (What a fabulous story to tell my friends back home!) The waves were too rough for the kayaks, but the kids and I did take advantage of the amazing catamaran rides and a tour of the nearby Dolphin Discovery which had manatees and sea lions in addition to the dolphins. We had hoped to ride the bicycles which were available, but didn't find the time to squeeze them it.
For those who can afford it, Dreams Puerto Adventuras is an outstanding place to stay with lots of family oriented activities on site. The only a couple drawbacks that I can see. There is really no contact with genuine Mexican culture on site, but there are cultural opportunities nearby including amazing archeological sites such as Tulum and the pyramid at Itchen Itza. The second drawback is that the price is prohibitive for many families.
Overall, I highly recommend the Resort. It has given my family and I memories that we will cherish for years to come.

We stayed in a less expensive hotel in Playa del Carmen for the next two days. Avenida 5 was a tourist trap. The beach was narrow and crowded as compared to our luxury resort, but we were planning to hit the pyramid at Chichen Itza anyway. Our cheap tour company was pretty awful. We were in a small van with no water provided and our bus driver had us spending much more time standing or sitting around waiting for him than we spent at on the grounds at Chichen Itza. We were there for the Spring Equinox, by accident. It was the perfect time to go! The weather was beautiful, not too hot. The pyramid had been designed to display a snake down side of the northern staircase only for a few hours during the Equinox and we were able to see it! It was spectacular and one of the most memorable experiences of my lifetime.

Overall, I highly recommend the Resort. It has given my family and I memories that we will cherish for years to come. I'd recommend a more basic hotel such as the one where we stayed for days when you want to explore towns or tourist sites.

We spent our Spring Break at Dreams Resort in Puerto Aventuras -- and cannot wait to go back! From the moment we drove up and received a welcome glass of champagne with a "welcome home" and a smile, we knew this resort was all about making
more +the family feel comfortable and special.
The kids had a total ball on the giant inflated water iceberg, taking SCUBA demonstration lessons, kayaking and sailing. All inclusive is SO the way to go!
The staff was super-friendly and accommodating, the food was terrific, and the kids sure loved swimming up to the pool bar and getting their daily frozen banana and strawberry smoothies.
Because the resort is self-contained, we felt the teenagers (ages 13 and 15) were safe exploring a bit. And the youngest (age 9) enjoyed making crafts and meeting new friends at the Kids Club.
This facility is clean, a solid value and HIGHLY recommended!
