Beach and Pool
Start the morning with yoga on the beach or head over to the large activities pool, where the Dreams Team leads guests in water aerobics, salsa lessons, pool volleyball, Spanish instruction, and Mexican cooking demonstrations. If you prefer to read when the children are at the Explorer's Club, head to the adults-only relaxation pool with comfy and cushiony chaise lounge chairs on the upper deck.
Take a Walk
If you're feeling energetic, ask the activities desk about the 90-minute guided walk into the hillside to a hidden waterfall. You'll pass many of the million dollar estates that give this part of Puerto Vallarta an upscale feel.
Shopping on the Malecon
Take a 10-minute taxi ride to the Malecon and walk on the city's famous boardwalk. Kids will enjoy the many entertainers, from jugglers to sand sculptors. Don't overlook the shops and restaurants in Old Town. Small storefronts sell everything from blankets to tequila to sombreros.
Explorer's Club
The daily Explorer's Club takes full advantage of the great setting to hold sandcastle competitions, jumping on the bungee trampoline, seeing movies on the beach at night, heading indoors to play in the game room, and learning about local Mexican crafts. The weekly camp out allows children to spend the night at the club. Older children and their parents have the rare opportunity to rock climb and rappel with a guide on the actual rock face that lines the edge of the beach.
Observing Sea Life
Bahia de Banderas, the massive bay stretching out from Puerto Vallarta, is teeming with sea life. From November through March, it's not unusual to be looking out to sea from the resort and see the fluke of a humpback whale; they venture south in the winter months to breed. Also be on the lookout for dolphins jumping behind the wakes of motorboats. From June through October, Kemp's ridley turtles visit the beach to lay their eggs. When the turtles hatch, you can hold a little guy in your hands before releasing it into the ocean.
Scuba Diving and Snorkeling
Need a little bit more adventure? Scuba divers and snorkelers can find boats going out daily to view the neon-colored fish.
Horseback Riding
There also is ample opportunity to horseback ride in the Sierra Madre mountains, often to see a coveted swimming hole or waterfall.
