We stayed in Puerto Vallarta for the 1st time at this resort. We were very disappointed after staying for years in Playa del Carmen. It was small with most of the resort being condominiums. The entertainment was not good. There were only a few more +restaurants and they weren't great. You could never get towels for the pool. Some of the people were helpful. We are used to beautiful sand and water and it was all brown in Puerto Vallarta.

My husband, 3 year old son and I had a terrific trip to Dreams Villamagna on the beautiful Banderas Bay in Nuevo Vallarta! We checked into the all inclusive hotel at about 8:30 at night and there was no wait to check in. Someone brought us a cool more +mimosa to sip while we were checking in and a juice for my son. The lobby is open air so it was quite warm, but not unpleasant (might have been too hot in the middle of summer, tho!) The room was beautiful with simple decorations and we were upgraded to the ocean view suite. The only problem with the room is it didn't actually have a separate bathroom--a curtain separated the room from the beautiful stand alone tub/bathroom space. The toilet and shower were enclosed in frosted glass doors...so not very private, but private enough for families.

The Children's program at Dreams was great! Our son had a wonderful time going there and hanging out with the counselors and other children. We mainly put him in the kids program during dinner time so that we could enjoy a nice quiet evening--and they took him to dinner during the program, so that worked out well. He made a few crafts and played in their playroom, also they sometimes showed movies.

The pools were terrific and my son started swimming on his own while we were there. The beach was nice and gradual and he enjoyed playing in the waves. They had boogie boards that you could check out and ride. The beach is great for walking with soft but firm sand and no shells. My husband even got in a few games of beach volleyball. Lots of shaded palapas on the beach and a wonderful waiter at the beach and pool to keep our drinks refilled. They did not however serve any snacks/food on the beach or at the pool.

The food was very good and served in nice portions, not too big. They had several restaurants to chose from with kid friendly menus at each. The staff was very attentive and nice and even went out of their way a few times to find something for our son that wasn't readily available (like peanut butter!) They did have a live show every night, but we only attended the fire-dance show--which was amazing. We felt safe at the resort at all times. Since we had our son with us, we did not explore the surrounding area except to go on the Pirate ship excursion, which he didn't like at first because he thought one of the pirates was trying to hurt me :) but got into after about 10 minutes when he realized I was fine! Overall a great hotel, area and vacation!
