Disgruntled Loyalist

by msgrinblatt

I used to love Kimpton. No more.
They lied to me. No excuse.
I had reservations for Kimpton in DC yesterday and when I called to confirm I was told hotel was closed!!
Called IHG. They didnt know I f they were coming or going.
After 90 minutes on phone I found out that the hotel was open but as of 11/12/19 it was no longer with IHG. Meaning on 11/11/19 it was.
I didn’t check in as I was told the hotel was closed.

The company didn’t seem to care about my inconvenience (to say the least). Of course your results may vary.
I consider them awful.
Buyer beware

Good hotel

This hotel is pretty good. The location is good. The staff at the front desk when I checked in was fine. The tablet system they have in the room is pretty good. You can request whatever you need on the tablet. They deliver within 5-10 minute which was excellent. But, I think they have housekeeping issues. Their room attendants need to do a better job to clean the room. There are many places covered with dust. I didn’t feel like to touch any glasses bc they look dirty. There were men’s hair in the amenity box. They replaced a bar soap which used only a couple of times. That was so waisted. But, they need to bother to change a lotion bottle for new guests. When I opened the bottle for first time, it was obvious that the lotion was used before. I requested new and they brought up quickly.
I stayed in room 2103. The view was great. But I still heard traffic noise from the street down (6th ave). I think this is the same wherever you stay in Manhattan. There was strange noise coming from ceiling at night for both days I stayed there. It started around midnight and continued throughout the night. It repeats every 10-15 min. That kept me up. It sounds like someone was using a plunger in the toilet. But I didn’t hear the noise during daytime.
They don’t have a coffee maker but you can request and they deliver pretty quickly. But, coffee is pretty bad. The complimentary coffee in the lobby is much better. It’s better to go down to get a couple of cups of coffee in the morning. There is no shower cap but again you can request.
I didn’t get to use, but they have wine hour from 5 to 6pm every evening. I wish I experienced that.
Overall, this hotel is a great value for the price I paid $236+tax a night. But, I would avoid room 2103 for the strange noise. The room size is normally small - hotel rooms are small in Manhattan. This was my first time staying in Kimpton and I am glad I did. I always thought Kimpton is a great brand and my experience confirmed they are. Will I stay here again? Yes as long as the price is reasonable.
