Florida Panhandle Planning & Tips
Travel Tips
Flying into the area hasn't been the easiest, but the new Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport opens this May with larger, commercial flights available and just 45-minutes east of the area in Panama City. Flights can also land in the Northwest Florida Regional Airport in Ft. Walton Beach, about 45 minutes to the west, and Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport, just over an hour.

The Art of Smart Timing
July and August are South Walton's busiest months, when second homeowners occupy the homes offered for rental in other months. Spring breakers are not attracted to the family-friendly vibe of this community, preferring the flanking cities of Pensacola and Destin, but spring still remains a busy time. With winter temperatures dropping into the 40s, the best time of year for perfect weather and less crowds is fall, when the communities offer their Autumn Tides celebration filled with art, food and children's festivals.

Getting Around
Communities are intimate and require nothing more than a pair of flip-flops or a bicycle for maneuvering, but if you're interested in sampling a variety of restaurants, heading to Sandestin for outlet shopping and miniature golf, or checking out the neighboring communities, you will need a car. During summer months, the two-lane 30A becomes quite crowded, so you may want to stick to bicycles and your neck of the woods.

All About the Extras The area is host to many cottage rentals for your family to enjoy a pastel-colored, tin-roofed home away from home. When staying in a place with a kitchen, be sure to visit Seaside's Modica Market, along the town green. This gourmet market has all the fixings you'll need to stock the fridge and cabinets with delicious goodies. Even if you're in a hotel, stop into their mom-and-pop store to pick up beach sandwiches and beverages. The Modica's are fixtures in this area and always on hand to say hello.
