Our first trip by car

We are driving from Northern California to Texas and back over the next few weeks. I wish it was for pleasure, but we are going to visit a terminal in-law. We have never been on a car trip for longer than 8 hours so this is a new experience for us.

We are passing through Arizona and New Mexico and have mapped out a few places to stay along the way.

Any suggestions to beat the boredom for our 8 1/2 year old daughter along the way? Her brother is staying home with my parents so it will be our first trip without both kids as well.

We are also trying to stock the car with healthy snacks, any creative suggestions or family favorites would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

If that means what I'm assuming, please accept my deepest condolences. I went through something similar in 2003, got there but, well................

I hope everyone is doing as best as can be expected and that the Easter trip will still be happening, although I am sure that is not the biggest concern right now.

Thank you Colleen. My mother in law passed this morning. My husband was able to get a flight out to see her last night and was able to see her just in time.
