My older daughter is 15 and she does keep up with a few friends that she has met while traveling via Facebook (as do I). My younger daughter who is 8 is too young for Facebook, however, she has exchanged a few emails with girls that she met while cruising in the Mediterranean last summer. I think social networking is great for encouraging international friendships - either with people that you have met while traveling or people that you have met "virtually" discussing a mutual love for travel.
