Baggage fees can significantly beef up the cost of a vacation for families traveling with a lot of luggage. For example, a quick search on Continental's Web site turned up a flight available this fall from Chicago to Fort Lau...

Good link, thanks. I just flew Allegiant Air last month. I was lucky to have booked before the new rates hit. They do however offer a substantial discount if you prepay for your luggage and/or carry ons in advance. That being said, they also charge extra if you want to pick your seat ahead of time or if you want priority boarding.

As for me, to eliminate extra baggage fees? I pack light. Only bring the most important stuff and essentials.
