Seabrook Island & Kiawah Island
In April 09 we checked out Seabrook Island (neighbor of Kiawah Island) outside of Charleston South Carolina. There are many private rental homes and condos throughout both areas. We stayed in a small raised home on the golf course, not far from the ocean on Seabrook. We could walk to the ocean.....you had to take boardwalked paths through the marsh areas to get to the beach (the kids thought this was fun because of all the tad poles in April). The beaches are again very similar to Fripp and Hilton Head (same coast line). They are completing a really nice beach front pool area and eventually there will be a hugh recreation and pool area near the main gate (both resort island areas are gated). There is a very nice grocery store between the two resort areas. We rented bikes and had them delivered and waiting for us.....we spent our mornings on the beach sandcastle building and just playing around...and the afternoon we explored Kiawah's nature center and did alot of biking. Although there weren't any dedicated biking paths the rodes were not very crowded even during Easter weekend and we found plenty of safe biking areas (although I do prefer separate bike trails) - we were a family of 7 for this trip. We saw deer, birds, LOTS of alligators!!, turtles and a raccoon.
I have attached a picture of us bike riding....a favorite vacation pastime.
